Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Redesign Wins Over Fans According to Trending Poll

Fans cried foul when they first got a taste of the iconic video game speedster in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming live-action adventure comedy Sonic the Hedgehog. The movie was supposed to open this past weekend, but the outcry was so loud and so harsh, that the studio shuffled the release to this Valentine’s Day, opting to redesign Sonic. Today, we got a trailer for the updated movie, giving us all a look at the redesign in action. Guess what? Fans love it.
At least according to a new trending poll. SEMrush, a trends data provider, tracked Twitter sentiment surrounding variations of the trailer and the response was overwhelming. 73.68% of all tweets were positive when describing Sonic’s new look, while only 6.85% were negative.
Overwhelming applause was also highlighted for the Sonic the Hedgehog redesign trailer, as the clapping emoji was the most used in all tweets. So it appears that all that extra handwork has paid off. Or has it. There is also a trend of Tweeters making a big stink about certain things in pop culture and not following through to the end when the accused party mends their ways. Will audience flock to Sonic now that he looks more like his old video game self? That has yet to be seen.
As you can see from the trailer, Paramount and the team behind Sonic the Hedgehog have done a complete 360, giving us something funner and more family friendly than the first trailer that dropped. Gone is the bewildering soundtrack featuring Coolio’s ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’, replaced instead with J.J. Fad’s Super Sonic Remix and some Ramones, which makes for a breezier outing.
Sonic the Hedgehog was originally supposed to debut in theaters last week. And it probably would have been a hit, even without the redesign. It would have arrived with a lack of family movies in theaters, and big adult fare like Terminator: Dark Fate and Doctor Sleep bombing.
Now, Sonic the Hedgehog is going to speed up onto the big screen on February 14, 2020. It’s not exactly a date movie. So it’s a bit odd to find it landing on that date. But it is the only family movie opening in that frame, and should clean up. The live-action animated hybrid starring Jim Carrey and James Marsden will be going up against Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island, which turns the iconic TV show resort into a scream-filled nightmare.
Kingsman prequel The King’s Man will also be blasting its way across the screen. The first romance being released is The Photograph, which mixes dead parents, buried secrets and a mysterious journalist for a heart pounding drama of intensity and sex. Definitely not for kids. And then we have What About Love, the second romantic wide release of the Valentine’s Day Weekend, which finds two young people traveling Europe to make a movie about people’s attitudes towards love.
Written by Patrick Casey (Golan the Insatiable), Josh Miller (Golan the Insatiable) and Oren Uziel (The Cloverfield Paradox), Sonic the Hedgehog follows Tom Wachowski, a cop in the rural town of Green Hills, who decides to help Sonic escape from the government looking to capture him. The film is directed by Jeff Fowler and executive produced by Tim Miller (Terminator: Dark Fate). We have a new image of Sonic the Hedgehog to share. SEMRush provided us with this info.

I think the sequel to the sonic movie should follow the tragic story of the original ugly-looking sonic getting publicly despised and then “disposed of” while being replaced by the cuter one. Ugly sonic just trying to live… in a world that doesn’t want him to live.

Honored to have been brought in to lead the design on the new Movie Sonic. Working with Jeff and the modelers, riggers, texture/fur artists and animators in LA, London, and Vancouver was a thrill I’ll never forget. #SonicMoviepic.twitter.com/HhcVIxAhXB

He thinks the design is more Sonic-like now especially with the gloves, but he doesn’t like how the eyes aren’t joined together. He’s looking forward to the movie, but also wishes he could see the older version as well. pic.twitter.com/CSu7AIl9ip

Ppl saying old Sonic was a “marketing scheme” don’t understand how much artists’ designs are ruined by studio heads who think they know better. I’m sure this new design existed already as an early mock up b/c it was what the artists WANTED to do but higher ups had “better” ideas
