Zack Snyder Proves Snyder Cut Exists with New Evidence and Official Runtime?

#ReleasetheSnyderCut just won’t die. Once again, we’re here to discuss the fabled Snyder Cut of Justice League. Though, at this point, it seems as though debating its existence is becoming futile. Case in point, director Zack Snyder has once again affirmed that his cut of the movie, in some shape or form, does indeed exist, and he’s shared some photographic evidence to prove it. This also comes with the official runtime, which is listed as 214 minutes. That is three and a half hours, nearly identical to the running length of Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman. Now, the question becomes, as it’s always been, will we ever see it?

Zack Snyder isn’t the most active social media user in the world, and he often uses a social networking site called Vero to post, as opposed to Twitter or Instagram. Recently, given the heightened discussion surrounding the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement, the filmmaker took to Vero to share a picture of several film canisters with the words “JL. Director’s Cut” written on them. These canisters also have the official runtime for the Snyder Cut printed on the side. Snyder wrote the following over the picture to make perfectly clear what this is in reference to.

“Is it real? Does it exist? Of course it does”

For those who may not be totally familiar with the situation, Zack Snyder directed both Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Warner Bros. had a tremendous amount of confidence in his vision and they had set him up to film Justice League very shortly after the release of BvS, which didn’t go according to plan. The movie proved to be highly divisive, which made things contentious on Justice League. Snyder moved on from the project entirely following the tragic and untimely death of his daughter.

Joss Whedon (The Avengers) was brought in to oversee rewrites and reshoots on the project, which were, to say the least, extensive. The final product, which was released in November 2017, didn’t resemble Zack Snyder’s original vision. Despite that, he remains the credited director. For two years now, fans have been calling for his cut of the movie to be released, with cast members Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher and even Ben Affleck joining in on the action recently. That has led to increased conversation about the project, with many wondering/hoping if Warner Bros. will release it on the upcoming streaming service, HBO Max. Though, the indication currently is that the studio has no interest in releasing the Snyder Cut.

Also related to the Snyder Cut, the director recently shared a new image of Ben Affleck’s Batman. The image sees Batfleck leaping through the air rather heroically. It’s difficult to say for certain, but it looks as though this shot could have been from a different version of an early sequence of the movie that made it into the theatrical cut which sees Batman taking on a Parademon.

Some have questioned the movie’s existence, but given the number of credible parties who claim to have seen it, coupled with the evidence from Snyder’s camp, it seems a cut exists. However, we’ve also heard that it has many unfinished shots and would need a great deal of special effects work before it could be released theatrically. With that in mind, Warner Bros. would have to put up some money to see this thing through, and that’s likely the sticking point, since Justice League was a financial disaster that they’ve since moved on from. Whether it exists or not, the ball is in the studio’s court. Be sure to check out the post from Zack Snyder’s Vero account for yourself.
